Sending a college care package is one way to let your child know you’re thinking of them. Everyone loves receiving gifts in the mail and college students are no exception. Here are a few ideas to include in a college care package…

It might seem like my husband and I are pros at sending our kids off to college. We’ve sent four of our five children off to school and I can honestly tell you that even by child number four, it doesn’t get easier for me to say goodbye. Even though our kids are always excited about their new adventures in their new school, I know sometimes they miss home too.

In the care packages I send my kids, I keep it simple. I usually pick up an inexpensive plastic container to hold all of the items because I know it’s something they will also be able to use in their dorms or apartments. After I find the container, I fill it with a package of their favorite cookies, teas, hot cocoa packets, soaps, razors and other items I know they’ll use.
I love to send items I know they won’t buy for themselves. Let’s face it, most college students are on a budget so receiving a basketful of goodies means a lot to them. Truth be told, making up a basket like this is also good for me. It makes me feel good to know I’m still taking care of them from a distance.
I always include soaps, deodorant and disposable razors. Since my kids shave every day, I send them good, quality razors like these Schick Hydro Silk® disposable razors. These uniquely designed razors deliver an incredibly close shave and with water-activated moisturizing serum and 5 curve-sensing blades with skin guards, skin is protected from irritation.
Assorted teas, hot cocoa and a cute mug are always a welcome surprise…
A gift card and a few dollars are always appreciated…
Other ideas…
- Don’t forget the holidays. For Halloween, send a bag of their favorite candy. Make the basket more festive.
- During exams, send special snacks for nights when they’re staying up late studying.
- Homemade snacks from home like granola bars or homemade granola will always be appreciated.
- School supplies – staples, lightbulbs for a desk light or pricy ink cartridges for their printer.
What items have I left off my list? What would you add to a college care package?
