Are you planning a trip to Panama City Beach, Florida? If so, read all about the sunset cruise we recently took. I know you’ll want to add it to your itinerary.
Last week, I told you about a trip we recently took to Panama City Beach, Florida. It was a wonderful, long weekend of relaxation and time together as a family. One of the highlights of that trip was a sunset cruise we took with Stem to Stern Sailing.
When I began planning our trip to Panama City Beach, one of my husband’s requests was that we look into a sunset cruise. We explored cruising opportunities online and discovered Stem to Stern Sailing. I emailed Captain Laurie, who owns the company along with her husband, Captain Dale and told her what we were looking for. We were given all the information we needed and it sounded perfect so we made our reservation.
When my husband, our daughter and I arrived at Stem to Stern’s office, we were met by Captain Dale who showed us the way to the boat we would be sailing on. At the boat we met Captain Carl and his wife who would be sailing the 46′ Spray designed Gaff Rigged Schooner whose Hull and Rig is modeled after working boats over 200 years ago.
We were treated to a lovely assortment of cheeses, crackers, delicious shrimp and fruit along with wine, soft drinks and bottled water.
Captain Carl showed us a book on the history of the Spray design Gaff Rig Schooner. The Spray Schooner has a great history and I was surprised by the many variations from the original design.
We sailed out to Shell Island which is an approximately 7-mile long undeveloped barrier island running east to west between the Gulf of Mexico and the St. Andrew Bay.
We started to head back to shore as the sun was beginning to set…
We couldn’t get over how beautiful the sunset was. On our way back, we snapped this picture of a sailboat we passed…
When we returned home, I got an email from the owner of this particular boat who saw the picture above that I posted on Instagram. He told me he thought I might take a picture of his boat, “Easy Day” with the sun in the background so he returned the favor and took this picture of the boat we sailed on and sent it to me…
If you’re planning a trip to Panama City Beach, I would definitely recommend looking into a cruise with Stem to Stern. In addition to the sunset cruises, they also offer special occasion cruises for anniversaries, birthdays and office parties. Captain Laurie is a minister of the Universal Life Church and is legally eligible to perform wedding ceremonies. Stem to Stern is also a sailing school and offers ASA 101, 103 and 104 Sailing Classes. All of their sailing classes are endorsed by the world’s leading authority on sailing instruction, American Sailing Association (ASA).
