Sometimes the best places to to visit are in our own backyards. This is certainly true with The Woodlands Resort and Conference Center in The Woodlands, Texas. It’s the perfect resort for kids of all ages.
My family and I were offered the opportunity to explore The Woodlands Resort recently and decided it would be a wonderful place to take our newly turned 14 year-old daughter and a few of her friends for a fun-filled birthday party weekend.
The Woodlands Resort is in such a great location. It’s only about a 30 minute drive from downtown Houston and only about 18 miles from Bush Intercontinental Airport. The resort is tucked away in the woods and away from the noise of the busy city, yet close enough to many Houston area attractions.
When traveling with families and especially teens, it’s hard to find something that everyone can enjoy. We found The Woodlands Resort to have something for everyone.
A few of the recreational amenities include; 36 holes of championship golf, a 1,005 foot lazy river with spiral plunge slide, a fitness center, health spa, 5 swimming pools with spas, waterfalls and slides, a 21 court tennis facility, bicycle rentals and over 194 miles of jogging and biking trails.
The birthday excitement began early on a Saturday morning. As my husband and I picked up each of the girls who would be joining us for this birthday weekend, we were watching the weather and hoping the skies would be clear for us. Rain was in the forecast but we were keeping our fingers crossed.
We were able to book two adjoining rooms which was perfect for our little group. Having two rooms gave the girls the feeling that they were “on their own” even though we were in the other room.
The first order of business for the girls was to head over to the pool and lazy river. Although the day was overcast, there wasn’t a drop of rain in sight.
The pool at The Woodlands Resort isn’t just your average hotel pool, it’s unbelieveably huge and so much fun!
During the summer, the Forest Oasis Waterscape offers all sorts of activities such as making s’mores around the fire pit, dance parties and Dive-In Movie and Popcorn nights.
When the girls got hungry, they enjoyed burgers and ice cream at the Cool Water Café which is located poolside.
While the girls swam and ate, EJ and I used this opportunity to explore the resort. The atmosphere was so peaceful and calming, we found many quiet areas where we could sit and enjoy the view.
The girls decided to play a game of tennis at the property’s tennis center, which boasts one of the most extensive collections of tennis courts in the Houston area. There are 21 courts which include ten clay courts, seven outdoor hard courts and four indoor courts.
Later that evening, the girls dressed up and we enjoyed dinner on the patio at Robard’s Steakhouse, located at the hotel. We were able to get a table outside and enjoy the lakeside view.
The next day, the girls woke up bright and early so they would have more time to explore the resort. We enjoyed a wonderful Sunday brunch at the hotel’s Dining Room. The girls loved the vast selection of pastries along with waffles, eggs, sausage and more. I loved the omelette bar where I could order and watch the chef make an omelette with any fillings I wanted.
After breakfast, the girls wanted to swim and float down the lazy river before we checked out.
The Woodlands Resort is a place I could see visiting again with my family or as a weekend get-away with my husband. It’s perfect for adult-getaways, a girls weekend, conferences, weddings and reunions.
